Amazon.com Review Transforming into 30 different ships, the Matchbox Mega Rig Pirate Ship lets kids sail the high seas for hours of enjoyment. Designed for children ages four and up, the Mega Rig Pirate ship starts as one big pirate ship. Kids can break the ship down into elements that make, or can be mixed and matched to create, an array of different vessels made for racing, going ashore, or battling against one another with friends.
The Mega Rig Pirate Ship comes with two pirate action figures. View larger. | Built for Adventure With the Mega Rig Pirates Ship, living rooms, backyards, and bathtubs all become places pirate adventures. The different ship components are made from durable plastic, which holds up to playtime on land or water. Built with Styrofoam inside, the base of each ship will float, and with built-in yellow wheels, can also roll along the ground. Smaller pieces, like the treasure chests, have rounded snap bottoms that easily and firmly connect to other building components. The pirate-ship set also comes with two pirate figures -- a captain and a crew member, a harpoon launcher, and a giant purple squid complete with suction tentacles. Built for Adventure Unlike some building toys, the Mega Rig Pirate Ship makes it easy for kids to jump right into playtime. Parents will appreciate this all-in-one building system comes already assembled as one giant vessel. And with easy-snapping pieces and picture references in the included booklet, detailed instructions aren't necessary for assembling the smaller ships. With so many scenarios and ships to build, each day can bring new opportunities for imaginative adventures. With the giant squid to play with, this toy is ideal for bath time. To avoid a mess, be sure to rinse, drain out, and dry the items before storing them away. Outdoors and around the house are also good places for pirate adventures, but be aware that the tiny wheels work best on smooth, hard surfaces like wood or linoleum. Sturdy and fun.... August 26, 2010 A. Guillermo (Orlando, USA) I bought this for my son for Christmas last year. I really wasn't thrilled with it when I unpacked it. It just didn't seem that interesting to me. Fortunately, the ship was not for me, it was for my four year old. He really likes this thing. He still plays with it in the bathtub at least once or twice a week. It was difficult for him to put some of the pieces together (still is), but he can manage most of them. He likes keeping the pieces separate, so he can have two or three boats in the tub at once. My only criticisms..... when the ship is totally assembled, it doesn't stay upright very well in the water. That drives my son a little crazy. The grappling hook on the front is a cool idea, but it never really worked that well. The cannon balls are easily lost, which is just annoying... not the fault of the item. My son plays with this outside of the tub also... but not as often. A lot of his toys are wood or metal - not suitable for bath. So, it's cool to have something that can be imaginative and waterproof.
Fustration Free Packaging/Present a Goner! July 24, 2010 Kathleen Kelner (East Northport, New York United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The fustration free packaging was the easiest I have ever opened in a child's gift. Great idea! Unfortunately, the present hardly outlasted the packaging. My exuberant nephew made short work of his new Christmas gift and by New Year's Day, it was a goner! Great packaging though!
What a cool toy June 25, 2010 wize1 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My grandson loves this toy; got him one for Xmas and it got lost in a move and so got him another one. Loved the hassle-free packaging too.
Lots of fun. May 18, 2010 Anonymous (Woodbridge VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 5 year old last Christmas. He was so excited to play with the pirates and the giant octopus (which is very wiggly). He enjoys taking it apart, putting it back together, and shooting the cannons. This has become a regular bath time staple. I like that when we take it out of the tub, the ship drains out quickly and no water gets left behind inside to go sour.
The big hit of Christmas!!! May 13, 2010 L (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This wasn't intended to be the big gift for Christmas, I had spent quite a bit of money on a train table and was expecting that to be my son's favorite. I was totally wrong! I even bought this toy as an afterthought, it was only $7.99 a few days before Christmas and so I just went ahead and bought it. Almost 6 months later my 3 year old still plays with EVERY DAY! It's nice that it can go in the water, and it floats and little hands can assemble it easily. It has small wheels on the bottom so it "sails" on the carpet nicely, and it doesn't have too many small parts.
